Blood Drive and Marrow Registry at Chapman University
Donors and Volunteers Needed

Join us for American Red Cross Blood Drive and
DKMS Marrow Registry at
Chapman University on Tuesday, 9/6

We know you are a committed lifesaver and ask that your come out to participate in our Donor Event at Chapman University on Tuesday, September 6 from 10am-4pm in the Davis Partners Resident Hall. We also ask that you tell your friends to join us in this lifesaving effort as well.  Together we will "save lives".

Step One: Sign up to donate blood
Go to  Red Cross Website and enter "92688" in zip code, then scroll down to find your event.

Step Two: Tell your friends
Make FB event to ask friends to join you as well.  If you are already on the marrow registry, thank you, but don't stop there. Please encourage your friends to swab their cheek as well at our event. They can check the eligibility guidelines at https://www.dkmsamericas.org/register. They can also sign up online, but we ask that they click on "Be A Hero Become A Donor" when asked "how did you find out about us". Marrow registration at event requires "no appointment" and takes 10 minutes.

Step Three: Volunteer at this event
No experience necessary, just the desire to be part of something great. We will train you on the spot, so consider giving a few hours to the cause. "Service Hour" credit available. We are also looking for an intern at Chapman University for the upcoming school year, as well as student groups to run our marrow registry of these donor events throughout the year.

Step Four: Host on "online" marrow event
We all know how awesome FB is, but consider using it not just to connect with your friends, but to save lives as well.  All it takes is one person, YOU, to educate and inspire their community, your FB friends, and you will be part of a global effort to save lives.  Encourage your friends to "Get Swabbed" by going to  https://www.dkmsamericas.org/register . Ask them to click on "Be A Hero Become A Donor" in the pulldown menu when asked "how did you find out about us". Cheek swabs will be mailed to them. Be sure to educate them along the way with these facts:
·10,000 patients a year will be in need of a lifesaving bone marrow transplant, but can't get to transpalnt without a stranger stepping up to donate.
·You match a patient of similar race and ethnicity, so having more young, healthy, diverse donors on the registry will translate to more matches and more lives saved.
·Donation is nothing like they have seen on TV and in the movies. Use our PSAs to educate your friends in a fun way about the critical need and ease of donation should they win the "lifesaving lottery" and actually have the privilege of matching a patient and going on to donate.

Step Five: Initiate a "100 Cheeks in a Week" Campaign
The goal of this campaign is to recruit 100 new donors. You will do this by enlisting the help of 9 volunteers. Once you have your team put together, you will spend time promoting DKMS and the need for bone marrow donors in your target community. For one week following this promotion, you and the members of your team will each actively recruit 10 people to join the registry: 10 x 10 = 100!
Email Gina to discuss this great lifesaving event.

Step Six: Like us on Facebook
Take the easy way out and simply "LIKE" us on FB. Even this simple move will help promote the work of our foundation and our lifesaving efforts. www.facebook.com/BeAHeroBecomeADonor

Remember, most of us have the ability to donate blood, marrow, cord blood, and/or organs/tissues in our lifetime AND "all of us" might need these vital resources some day to save our lives.

Thank you for your commitment to this global cause.
